Welcome to the University of Montevallo, Alabama’s public liberal arts university. As we conceptualize it, a liberal arts approach to higher education is a teaching style and educational experience rather than a specific field of study. Students get both deep and broad knowledge-skills. They take a deep dive into their disciplinary and interdisciplinary passions in tandem with broad immersion in critical thinking, problem solving, communication, teamwork, personal and social responsibility, and integrative and applied learning. We offer our students a personalized, high-impact education that includes an array of opportunities for project-based learning: internships, undergraduate research, performance, study abroad, capstones, and honors. Taken together we champion the applied liberal arts where students get the powerful combination of classroom and real-world training and experience that makes for nimble 21st century citizens. UM graduates will enter a rapidly changing global economy where they are prepared for existing as well as new careers that have yet to be invented. Simply put, our students are thinkers AND doers.
