The Marine Corps League Veteran’s Scholarship
In memory of Dr. Eugene Sledge, the HM Smith MCL Detachment 592 Scholarship fund established this UM scholarship to help US Marine Corps veterans who are students at UM funding two $1,000 annual awards. Scholarship may be renewed up to a total of 4 years.
- Applicants must be accepted with intent to enroll at the University of Montevallo.
- Recipients must provide verification of veteran, active, or reserve status.
- Priority given to a US Marine Corps veteran or dependent of a US Marine Corps veteran.
- Submit an application to Awardspring no later than March 1 before each academic fall semester.

The Ron Nichols Memorial Art Scholarship – apply through Awardspring
The Ron Nichols Memorial Art Scholarship is being established to provide funding support to grandchildren of Veterans. Criteria for awarding the scholarship is as follows:
- Must be the grandchild of a Veteran
- Art major
- Maintain a minimum 2.8 GPA, and be in good standing with the University
- Students will be required to send a handwritten thank you note to the donor, through the office of University Advancement
- Applicants must be participating members of the UM Campus Veterans Association.
The David E. Crenshaw, Jr. Minority Scholarship – apply through Awardspring
The David E. Crenshaw, Jr. Minority Scholarship is being established to provide funding support to a minority student majoring in any degree program within the Stephens College of Business. Criteria for awarding the scholarship is as follows:
- Must either be a Veteran or the spouse, child, or grandchild of a Veteran
- Business major
- Maintain a minimum 2.8 GPA, and be in good standing with the University
- Students will be required to send a handwritten thank you note to the donor, through the office of University Advancement
- Applicants must be participating members of the UM Campus Veterans Association.
The Walt Johnson Family Memorial Scholarship – apply through Awardspring
The Walt Johnson Family Memorial Scholarship is being established to provide funding support to a current University of Montevallo student who has demonstrated philanthropy through active participation in service-oriented programs or projects for the betterment of the campus or local community. Criteria for awarding the scholarship is as follows:
- Must either be a Veteran or the spouse, child, or grandchild of a Veteran
- Must write and submit one paragraph about their service-oriented involvement
- Maintain a minimum 2.8 GPA, and be in good standing with the University
- Students will be required to send a handwritten thank you note to the donor, through the office of University Advancement
- Applicants must be participating members of the UM Campus Veterans Association.

Remember, loans must be paid back, Pell Grants do not. Students do not have to accept all aid offered – but can choose to accept only as much as they need. Check with the Coordinator of Veteran Affairs and/or the Student Aid Office to ensure multiple sources of funding are being applied to the greatest benefit.
