Dr. Scott Turner is a professor of Political Science at the University of Montevallo. He earned his B.S. degree from Middle Tennessee State University and his Ph.D. from the University of Georgia.
Dr. Turner’s courses include American National Government, African Politics, Middle East Politics, Modern Political Thought, International Relations, World Politics, Model UN, Political Film, and Science Fiction and Politics. In 2002-03, he taught at the University of Nairobi as a U.S. Fulbright Scholar while on sabbatical from the University of Montevallo. He participated in a Malone Fellowship study tour of Syria in 2000, and a Sasakawa Fellowship on Incorporating Japanese Studies into the Undergraduate Curriculum in San Diego in 2007. He escorted student participants in the National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations’ Kuwait Scholars Program on a study tour of Kuwait in 2002. He has organized and led Montevallo students on study tours of South Africa and Kuwait. Turner is also faculty advisor for the University of Montevallo chapters of Amnesty International and Young Democrats.
Dr. Turner’s research interests include anarchist theory, human rights and national parks. He has published articles in Peace and Change, Journal of Peace Research, Southeastern Political Review and Washington Report on Middle East Affairs. He has also authored chapters in the following research anthologies: New Perspectives on Anarchism, The Politics of Transition in Kenya and Handbook of Global Social Policy.
