Originally from Houston, Texas Dr. Brett Noerager grew up in Norway, England and attended high school in Massachusetts.
He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California at San Diego in 1993, where he majored in animal physiology and neuroscience. He has lived in Alabama since 1996, which is when he began the doctorate program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics. His dissertation was directed at developing a novel treatment for the autoimmune disease, multiple sclerosis.
At the University of Montevallo, Dr. Noerager teaches Anatomy, Physiology, Immunology, Introductory Biology I and Principles of Biology. He maintains a collaborative research program with researchers from the Department of Medicine at UAB, in which they are investigating common cellular and molecular mechanisms of several different lung diseases — including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cystic fibrosis, and asthma.
In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he coordinates the Plunge program to help prepare students for the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). He is also the faculty advisor for the Biology Club, Beta Beta Beta National Biological Honor Society, and the UM Pre-Health Professionals Society.
