Dr. Christine Sestero joined the Department of Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics at the University of Montevallo as an Assistant Professor of Biology in 2012. She holds a B.S. in Biology from The College of Idaho, a Ph.D. in Microbiology from Idaho State University and was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UASOM).
Dr. Sestero’s research background in medical microbiology involved characterizing virulence factors associated with pathogenic fungi. Her current research focuses on the pathogenesis of autoimmune disease and the contributions of CD4+ helper T cell populations in diseases such as multiple sclerosis. Her research appears in journals such as Mycopathologia and The Journal of Immunology.
