Elite Night is a longtime tradition dating back to 1933, and was an occasion for recognizing student honors. In the early years, students voted for candidates vying for individual titles ranging from “Miss Alabama College” to “The Actress” and “The Writer.”
By the late 1950s, the award represented high academic achievement and candidates were selected by faculty in their respective academic departments. Students typically selected for Senior Elite have the highest major GPA and overall GPA. These students often graduate with honors.
