Education of the Deaf & Hard of Hearing
The mission of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education Program is to prepare teachers who are competent professionals with the ability to make appropriate decisions regarding the evaluation and implementation of educational programs to meet the social, emotional, and academic needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing. The program was established in 1974 and is accredited by both the State Department of Education and NCATE. Montevallo is the only university in the state of Alabama to offer a degree in Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Upon completion of the requirements for the B.S. degree, graduates are eligible for Class B special education teacher certification in the area of deaf education.
