Graduating HDFS students are eligible for provisional certification!
The Human Development and Family Studies program is a Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) approved academic program. The program is approved through the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR).
Students interested in applying for CFLE credentials should email Dr. Lolita Kincade, director of the CFLE program. Dr. Kincade hosts workshops in-person and online to assist students with their application and in learning about ways they can use their CFLE certification in applied, professional settings.
Human Development and Family Studies
Human Development and Family Studies prepares students for a career in a variety of applied settings with families and individuals including:
- Preschool education
- Human services agencies
- Non-profit organizations
- Child and family advocacy/policy
- Faith-based organizations
- Government agencies
The HDFS concentration is a great option for students planning to attend graduate school for marriage and family counseling, psychology, social work and other related fields.
Certified Family Life Educator
Our program coursework meets standards and criteria for approval as a provisional Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE). This certification allows our graduates to gain professional experience in Family Life Education including:
- Formal teaching
- Community education
- Public information
- Education curriculum/resource development
CFLEs aim to strengthen and enrich individual and family life through a preventative, family perspective.
