The Gallery at Bloch Hall and The Poole Art Gallery in the Center for the Arts are managed by the Art Department to educate and engage our students with exhibitions of contemporary work demonstrating the diversity of current artistic practice as well as work from historical periods. Artist’s and curator’s talks accompany most exhibitions.
In addition to being a vibrant part of our curriculum they are significant public venues for the visual arts in the Montevallo community and Shelby County. Collectively, the galleries present four professional exhibitions and numerous BFA student exhibitions each year.
All exhibitions and gallery talks are free and open to the public. Please contact Ryan Foster, Gallery Director, for more information. To join the gallery’s email list, contact Nita Terrell. Join us on Facebook at: UM Art Department.
Our exhibitions and artist talks are made possible by our generous donors. We are grateful for the philanthropy that supports our students. In recognition of their devotion to the arts, we have named lecture series and spaces in their honor. The Martha Allen Lectures Series in the Visual Arts is named for a long-time faculty member and art alumna. The Poole Art Gallery is named for dedicated art alumna, Melanie Poole, ’86.
