Transferring to the University of Montevallo from Calhoun Community College in Huntsville, junior Logan Harbin knew he belonged on the bricks from his first visit. A member of Montevallo’s baseball team, Harbin was ready to don a Falcons jersey after seeing the picturesque campus and getting to speak with Head Baseball Coach Chandler Rose.
“I visited a little over five schools and Montevallo just stuck out to me,” Harbin said. “It’s a really beautiful campus, and I agreed with a lot that Coach Rose had to say. It felt different than all the other places that I went to and saw — it really felt like home.”
The Knoxville, Tennessee native is majoring in exercise and nutrition science with a focus in strength and conditioning. After college, he would like to go to physical therapy school and create a baseball facility geared toward college athletes.
“I’ve always wanted to stay in the game of baseball and give back because it’s always been such a big part of my life,” Harbin said. “I enjoy doing things like that and I’ve always wondered about nutrition and exercise in relation to baseball.”
Harbin receives a partial athletic scholarship as a member of the baseball team, which has helped him tremendously since the sport is a year-round commitment.
One of the things Harbin most enjoys about Montevallo is the welcoming atmosphere — to him, UM feels like a family.
“Walking around campus, you feel at home,” Harbin said. “I’ve never been a big school type of person. I like being a part of a smaller, close-knit school like UM.”
